I became a doctor so I could help people.  To do that you have to first respect people and genuinely be interested in and care about what is important to them.Â

My approach is to learn what's important to people while helping them understand the science, so they are empowered to live the life they want to live.Â

I have a wide scope of skills in primary care including most chronic medical conditions, mental health, pediatrics, and office procedures. I have particular interest in helping people make the foundational changes to live a long full life, mental health including ADHD, headaches, sports and endurance medicine, and adventure/travel advising. That being said, I adapt my practice and expertise to what my patients need.

I grew up in a poor neighborhood in Green Bay. My family was burdened with medical debt for much of my childhood. I know firsthand the stress the broken medical system causes.

I have been given many opportunities that others were not. I have always felt called to serve in any way I can. That means not only being the best father, husband, doctor, and friend I can be, but it also means that when I'm not at work I advocate for public health, to make it a little easier for people to be healthy in our society. I learned to be a community organizer and co-founded Healthy Climate Wisconsin, a highly successful statewide group that trains health professionals to advocate for a cleaner more affordable energy system, clean air, and healthier, more resilient communities.Â

I am fluent in Spanish, with a degree in Spanish and Latin American studies, and have lived and done service work in rural Mexico.Â

I completed my Diploma in Mountain Medicine from the Wilderness Medical Society. In addition to technical mountain rescue and care in austere environments, I learned to advise patients in expedition planning and pre-travel preparation. Whether their goal is to summit a mountain or simply walk comfortably at a grandchild's destination wedding, I love to help people take the next step in their adventures.Â

In my free time I love to be active outside, especially with my family. I bike, run, cross country ski, back-country ski, canoe, and camp. I love to travel. I enjoy woodworking. I love music and dancing. I love reading. I love learning.

I am eager to build a practice that not only gives you the best primary care at an affordable price, but that goes deeper. True healing requires vulnerability. I want Meadowlark to be a place where you feel at home, where you can trust that you will be known, respected, and skillfully cared for.
Â
Come say hi. Tell me about yourself.Â
Dr. Phoebe Devitt

I believe the best healthcare begins with a relationship.

I have seen firsthand how meaningful it can be to care for people not just as patients, but as members of a community. I value taking the time to listen, understand what matters most to each person, and work together to make healthcare decisions that fit their individual lives and goals.Â

Recently, I have developed a special interest in menopause and menopausal hormone therapy and have pursued extensive additional education in this area. I am passionate about helping women navigate this dynamic and often overlooked stage of life with evidence-based care and individualized support.

I have also been delivering babies and caring for growing families for more than a decade. While I will no longer be providing obstetric deliveries, I look forward to continuing to support patients through pregnancy, the postpartum period, and breastfeeding. I love being able to walk alongside families through these important transitions.Â
Other areas of particular interest include diabetes care, weight management, fitness and overall wellness, acne and cosmetic dermatology. I am committed to staying current with the latest evidence and to partnering with patients to find realistic, sustainable approaches to improving their health.

My perspective as a physician has also been shaped by my own experience as a patient. I was first diagnosed with thyroid cancer at age 30 and experienced a recurrence after the birth of my son. Navigating the healthcare system from the other side has deepened my appreciation for clear communication, patient advocacy, and the importance of feeling heard and supported during uncertain times.

I am excited to build a practice that feels personal, welcoming, and connected to our community. My hope is that Meadowlark Family Medicine will be a place where you feel known, heard, and supported through every stage of life.

Outside of medicine, I enjoy spending time with my family and exploring the beautiful Driftless Area. I love being outdoors, gardening, running, birding, and making pottery.

I look forward to getting to know you and your family and caring for our community for years to come.
"In the 15 years I have known Dr. Joel, he has become a trusted physician, a pillar of our small community and, above all, a dear friend. I trust and respect his medical guidance and judgement. I am heartened by his devotion to family and community, and I am impressed by how he still finds time for environmental advocacy through his work with healthy climate wisconsin."

"Dr. Devitt is the kind of physician who reminds you what healthcare should feel like--personal, collaborative, compassionate, and centered around the whole person."

"We have trusted Phoebe more than any other medical professional we have worked with, and both my husband and I grew up in much larger cities with access to much larger health systems. The level of care we RECEIVE from Phoebe is EXCEPTIONAL"
